
- To work to empower young people to realise their responsibilities as global citizens, and to give them the practical tools, and abilities to create positive and creative social or environmental change in their local communities.
- To educate about human rights and sustainable development in isolated rural communities in the south west of England.
- To promote issues of cultural diversity, good race relations, tolerance and ecological awareness
- To continue to create friendship links with young people from the northern and southern hemisphere
Through delivering human rights ,sustainable development and practical garden education, Global Citizen SW works to empower young people to realize global interdependency and their own responsibilities as global citizens.
The project uses creative teaching methods; including film, theatre skills and first hand case studies to equip young people with the tools and abilities to create positive changeswithin their own lives and lives of local and international communities.
For the past 5 years, the project has been working with young people in Cornwall, India, Ethiopia and Brazil (see links pages). The project uses first hand experience, film footage and photos from these locations to illustrate workshops. The project maintains close links with community projects in these locations, and a major aim of the project is to continue to build relations between young people from across the globe. Workshops promote a practical ways to effect positive change, including campaign and lobbying skills, actions for ecological living and gardening skills
